Calfs Details: Ginger,  Heifer,  Jersey,  DOB: 14/07/18,

OUR STORY: Hi,
I am Chloe Sargent, I am 9 years old and I live in Ngatea. This is my 3rd year doing calf club.

My calf’s name is Ginger and she’s great. She is very friendly and I love spending time with her. Ginger wears a cover to keep her coat clean and to make her feel secure. At calf club we do jobs like:

Brush our calves daily
Lead them around the obstacle course and walk them.
Wash and clean them

What I like most about my calf is giving her cuddles.

OUR STORY:  Hi my name is Georgia Rowland and my calfs name is Makuri Guthrie Jade. I live in Stratford Taranaki on a small dairy farm. My dad breeds pedigree Holstein friesians and my calf is out of one of my favourite cows. I am year 11 and love studying agriculture science and playing hockey and netball. Since my calf was born I have spent time with her whenever I can, brushing and tying her up. During the day she is in the paddock, in the morning and at night she gets feed milk and calf pellets.

OUR STORY:  My name is Ella Pirie. My calf this year is Leah, she is the grand-daughter of my second calf-club calf, Lulu. Her dam is also called Lulu, her sire Aussiegold.Leah is a pedigree jersey, I also have pedigree shorthorns, and take them to shows. Leah enjoys having a brush, lots of attention, and she loves leading as she gets treats at the end. I keep her clean by having a cover, and washing her when she gets dirty. I take photos every day to see how much she changes. She loves jumping over puddles and getting her hooves wet.

Calfs Details: Trixie/Big red, Heifer, Beef dairycross, DOB 11/08/18,

OUR STORY:  I have had kid goats for calf clubs right through my primary/intermediate years. I have missed having an Ag day pet. Mum said i could help her feed 25 beef calves. Mum has allowed me to purchase one of the calves and if i rear it and help mum feed all the others im allowed to sell it and have the money to put into my account. First thing i learnt is that a good beef calf needs five points (4 white socks, white face, white tail). I chose the nicest looking calf so it will sell well when reared.

Calfs Details: Lucy, Heifer, Friesian, 9-Jul-18,

OUR STORY:  Hi, my name is Summer and I’m 13 years old. I have been doing Calf Club for 6 years. As I live on a farm but do not own any cattle I borrow a calf from the Pirie Farms. I personally like Friesian’s better than Jersey’s so I usually pick a nice Friesian every year. I really like the mostly black Friesian’s as they stand out more but since it’s my last year I decided to go with a mostly white Friesian. I brush and lead her everyday. When she is being a good girl, I give her a marshmallow.

Calfs Details: Shimmer, Heifer, Crossbreed, DOB 12th July,

OUR STORY:  My calf is Shimmer. She is a crossbreed. Her calf tag number is 41. She was born on July 12th. I chose my calf because she was quiet and I liked her coat. I was 100% sure about picking her when she scoffed 4 marshmallows and walked brilliantly in the pen. After school I brush Shimmer and take her for walks round our farm. The best part of leading is that I never have to go the same way. I like everything about rearing my calf especially watching her drink her milk.

Calfs Details: Minty, Heifer, Crossbreed, DOB 6th July 2018,

OUR STORY:  My calf is Minty. She was born in 6th July. She is a crossbreed. Her calf tag number is 29. I chose Minty because she was quiet and I liked her colour. Minty leads brilliantly and does good turns and stops. I also wanted a calf with a pink udder. Minty is cheeky and when I lead her she has her tail in the air! My favourite part of rearing a calf is playing with her and I like washing her. The hardest part is teaching them to lead.

Calfs Details: Lilly, Heifer, Jersey, DOB 15-Jul,

OUR STORY:  My calf’s name is “Lilly” she is a Jersey. Lilly is a special calf because we were doing a night check and we see a heifer looking in the creek we see a calf doing its last kick of life under water. Dad chucks her on the bank and gives her CPR. We bring her to the calf shed. Mum and I bath her. Mum said she had a 30% chance of living. It took her a couple of days in the heat box to come right. I fell in love with her and now she is my pet.
